Itinerary 1: Hong Kong City Escape, West Route: Tai O & Cheung Chau Fishermen Villages

For an authentic experience of traditional fishing villages pay a visit to the villages of Tai O and Cheung Chau, both an easy reach from Hong Kong. Experience these villages, rich with historic customs, for yourself while they still remain unspoiled. The renowned Tai O is made up of unique stilted huts, built by the Lanta people who have made their homes on the tidal flats of Lantau Island for centuries. This unique waterman’s hut life culture has become a feature of Tai O and is worth a visit for the photo opportunities alone that this unique and colourful settlement provides.

Cheung Chau Island (meaning ‘long island’, thanks to its long strip-like shape) is located in between Lantau Island and Lamma Island and is an original small fishing with a relaxed lifestyle. The island is well known for its fresh and delicious seafood and Cheung Chau’s Tung Wan Beach and Kwun Yam Wan Beach are some of the most beautiful beaches in Hong Kong, with turquoise water, tropical plantations and fine sand.

Itinerary 2: Hong Kong City Escape, South Route: Lamma Island (Sok Kwu Bay, Yung Shue Wan)

This varied day charter will take you around some of Lamma Island’s most beautiful bays and islands and give you the chance to experience the island, which has a unique blend of western and Chinese culture, for yourself.

Visit Sok Kwu Bay to experience this historical Hong Kong fishing village, rich with oriental colors, before taking a family-friendly track towards Yung Shue Wan, which boasts a relaxing and romantic western atmosphere. Yung Shue Wan is the backbone of Lamma Island, with multiple restaurants, boutique cafes and small grocery stores that are all exquisitely decorated, making for a beautiful sight.

Itinerary 3: Hong Kong City Escape, East Route: Clear Water Bay and Po Toi Island.

The area around Sai Kung is known as ‘Hong Kong’s back garden’ thanks to its abundance of lush hiking trails and stunning beaches. Clear Water Bay is the most renowned of these beaches, having earned its name thanks to its turquoise clear water, and boasts incredible surrounding mountain scenery and plenty of amenities including a popular golf course. Ideal for visiting by water, your yacht will pick a quiet spot and moor up for you to enjoy the best the Bay has to offer.

Before your return, visit the rocky island of Po Toi (meaning ‘sack,’ name due to the its narrow channel from the bay to the sea), which is home to many traditional local fish farms and fleets of sampans (small local fishing boats). Still home to a number of traditional fisherman’s huts, this is a fascinating peek at a more traditional way of life. The island is also home to the Tin Hau temple, historic carvings, impressive rock formations and much more.
