TERNATE, BANDA, AMBON,13 DAYS

Day 1: Marina (Ternate)

Arrive on the diverse island of Ternate and settle into life onboard before stepping back in time to explore this historic trade empire. It was here that the famous naturalist and explorer Alfred Russell Wallace claims to have written his paper on the theory of evolution.

 

Day 2: Kayoa Island

Depart on your adventure as you cruise past this chain of beautiful islands to your first stop at Kayoa Island. Explore this wondrous wildlife haven and search the ancient forests for the native racquet-tailed Kingfisher of Kayoa.

 

Day 3: Bacan

Cruise across the equator and into the southern hemisphere as you voyage past the small islands that litter the horizon. Experience the incredibly rich wildlife on Bacan Island, and explore the rainforest for unique species that inhabit this beautiful island.

 

Day 4: Bacan Island – Sulabesi

Relax and admire this incredible part of the world with a calm cruise as you sail 150 miles towards your next destination, Sulabesi.

 

Day 5: Sulabesi

Step onto the Island of Sulabesi and wander through the main town of Sanana to explore an ancient Portuguese fortress. Spend your afternoon visiting an authentic sea gypsy settlement, home to the Bajau People and snake your way through a maze of wooden bridges that connect their stilt built houses over the sea.

 

 

Day 6: Buru

Explore the mountainous island of Buru surrounded by the sounds of abundant bird species that make their home here. Keep a watch for the mysterious Babirusa, with its unusual appearance of part pig and deer, as you ramble through this unique landscape.

 

Day 7: Kelang Island

Trek the tropical rainforests of Kelang Island and discover local villages on your way to the peak of the island for breathtaking views of these vast surroundings. Take the chance to explore the impressive coral reefs before an overnight cruise to the south.

 

 

Day 8: Ambon Island

Early navigators were drawn to the Bight of Hitu on Ambon island, where you can spend the morning exploring. Saunter the beautiful beaches or snorkel the brilliant waters of surrounding islands before a tender ride along the coastline to discover nearby villages. Cruise through the Horuke straight on your long voyage to the Banda archipelago.

 

 

Day 9: Ai

Meet with local villagers as you experience the beautiful island of Ai and ponder on the historical past of the area as you explore Fort Revenge and the surrounding plantations, with a short hike. Ai boasts one of the most stunning reefs of the region where you can enjoy a snorkel in the underwater paradise. Relax for a peaceful evening as you anchor in the lagoon.

 

Day 10: Bandaneria

Wander through the ancient town of Bandaneira and immerse yourself in rich history and culture as you explore the local museum, churches, renowned fortifications and historic mansions. Spend an afternoon visiting local markets to sample regional specialties.

 

Day 11: Gunang Api & Lonther

Embrace the challenge of an early ascent up the Gunang Api, ‘Fire Mountain’ volcano, to be rewarded with unbelievable views over these remarkable surroundings. Visit Lonther, the largest island in the chain where you can pay visit to a local fort, estate and nutmeg plantation. Begin the 100-mile cruise to your final destination, escorted at point by long ancient ‘Kora-Kora’ sea canoes.

 

Day 12 &13: Ambon

Cruise into the harbour of Ambon for an exciting day of exploring in this vibrant city. Visit the lively markets to sample the infamous breadfruit and seize the perfect opportunity to purchase the wonderful local produce and authentic crafts. Enjoy a final farewell dinner onboard
