Sailing in Phuket? Don’t miss the Red Cross Fair!

redcrossfairIf you are sailing in Phuket over the Christmas/New Year period then don’t miss this unique opportunity to go to the annual Phuket Red Cross Fair. The Red Cross Fairs (known in Thai as ‘ngan ga chart’) first started in Bangkok over 80 years ago and is now a major annual fundraising event across Thailand. The money raised is used across the country to provide food and aid for those in need.

A common feature of the Red Cross Fair are the many activities and stage shows on offer. There are many rows of stands and stall for you to take part in fun games and raffles or do some shopping from the stalls of traditional Thai handicrafts and gift souvenirs. There is also an opportunity to donate blood at the Red Cross booth.

Saphan Hin Park in Phuket Town is where the the fair is held every year. Every evening there is great entertainment laid on, including live music, beauty pageants, Thai classical dance shows and concerts.

It’s great for the children too as there is always a fun area with a Ferris wheel, merry-go-round and a bouncing castle, all for the little ones entertainment!

A great feature of the fair is the amazing and plentiful food on offer too, from fish balls, satay, roti, pad thai, noodle soup and barbecued seafood all abound in the many food stalls available throughout the Fair.

So if you are lucky enough to be sailing in Phuket around the New Year, then don’t miss the Red Cross Fair for a great way to celebrate.
